The Magpie Society (One For Sorrow)

It has been a while since I posted anything here however I am back with a new book review! This book was right up my street. I was hooked from start to finish. I am however going to pre-warn you guys that it does end in a cliffhanger and book No. 2 is not out yet but will be this year. So if you don't like waiting maybe hang fire until the second book is released. Moving along to the storyline, it is set in a boarding school in England called Illumen Hall. It focuses on two main characters Audrey and Ivy, Audrey comes from America and is looking to leave her past behind her and Ivy has been going to Illumen Hall for years. The two end up being roommates, much to Ivy's disgust,  they eventually end up teaming up as a detective pair to track down the killer of Ivy's past friend, Lola, that the police claims to be a 'misadventure'.

The title the Magpie Society comes from this secret club in the school that they begin to uncover in the story. Trying to pin how the Magpie Society links to Lola's death is the main mystery that I am still trying to piece together myself until I can get my hands on the next book.

The authors Zoe Sugg and Amy McCulloch really managed to get the reader invested in the story. Personally, I felt like I knew the characters which makes reading so much more enjoyable. The book is perfect for teens/young adults.

All books have their flaws and I think this book can drag on at times and to then not get answers can be frustrating but if you can get past that then the overall read is really enjoyable. I would probably give this book 4.5/5 stars the 0.5 being that you can't get to the bottom of the mystery in this one book which is disappointing for readers.

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog. I started an Instagram page to talk about all things bookish and thought that a blog might be a more appropriate site for posting my book reviews! I love to read all different genres. Creating this blog gives me somewhere to talk about the books that I love and my opinion on them. I plan on uploading posts twice a week. The Magpie Society, Two For Joy

Hello 2022  🥂 I thought I’d kick of the year with a book review. Im currently in isolation due to having covid, however not all bad having the time to read without feeling I should be doing something else has been lovely!  I was gifted this book for Christmas as I was desperate to get my hands on it, which I’m sure anyone who had read the last book of The Magpie Society would have been too, after the cliffhanger we were all left on.  I couldn’t turn the pages in this book any quicker. Still trying to get to the bottom of what the magpie society is and how it links with the death of the girl at the school. Every time I thought I had it figured out something else would come along and change my thoughts.  When the mystery was coming together I still didn’t predict the ending. I was on the edge of my seat until the very end. However I’m still left with questions and not 100% satisfied with the ending. My hopes are that their will be a third book in the series to ...
